Programme:

The proceeds of the match did not go to Gary Kelly as he chose to donate them to Charity, the main recipient being Cancer Research in honour of his sister who had died from cancer. The second largest cheer of the night was reserved for the seventy-fifth minute arrival of Michael Bridges when he made his appearance as a substitute for Jason Wilcox after eighteen months out of the game through injury. While the game was never about winners and losers, the competitive spirit of the Scottish team shone through and Alan Thompson's superb strike from thirty-five yards left Paul Robinson grasping at thin air in the twenty-first minute. Four minutes later Henrik Larrson showed his class and striking ability when he glanced a near post header past a surprised Paul Robinson for the second. Lee Bowyer pulled one back four minutes later but it was not to be United's night as the visitors always looked like winners and brought on Stiliyan Petrov for Alan Thompson in the thirty-third minute, but there was no addition to the score in the first half. In the spirit of the game United had a change of the troops with seven changes for the second half. In defence Dominic Matteo replaced Michael Duberry and Danny Mills came on for Rio Ferdinand, while in midfield it was Eirik Bakke for Seth Johnson, David Batty for Olivier Dacourt and Jacob Burns for Lee Bowyer, while Harry Kewell replaced Alan Smith in the striker's role and Stephen McPhail took over from Robbie Keane. Leaving Robinson, Kelly, Harte and Wilcox to soldier on. John Hartson got the best goal of the night in the fifty-sixth minute when he latched onto a high through ball from Jackie McNamara and lobbed a first touch volley over the advancing Paul Robinson and into an empty net. This was a signal foe Celtic to change their team. They changed their strikers, Shaun Maloney replaced Henrik Larsson and Simon Lynch came on for John Hartson. Shaun Maloney got his name on the scoresheet in the sixty-third minute to complete the scoring for the night, and United brought on Lucas Radebe for Ian Harte. Four minutes later Celtic made further changes with Morten Weighorst replacing Momo Sylla in the midfield and Tom Boyd replacing Johan Mjallby in defence. United brought on Bridges for Wilcox in the seventy-fifth minute and Celtic made three changes five minutes later, with Wallace on for Jamie Smith, John Kennedy for Bobo Balde and McParland for Steve Guppy. Dermot Gallagher of Banbury was the Referee.
